San Jose Man Wins $502,000 New Mexico Lottery Prize

4/30/2010 - ALBUQUERQUE – A San Jose man claimed a $502,000 prize from the
New Mexico Lottery today.
Paul Mathews’ quick-pick ticket for the April 16
Roadrunner Cash drawing matched the winning numbers of 12, 14, 24, 26 and 28.
After buying a used car, Mathews said he plans to give the rest of his prize to children and grandchildren.
“I’ll still be a starving artist,” he said, “but I’ll be a contented artist.”
Mathews purchased his winning ticket at the Pecos River Station at exit 319 on Interstate Highway 25. The San Jose store has sold 11 other large prize-winning tickets ranging between $1,000 and $33,000.
Other recent local lottery
winners include Las Vegas residents
Jennifer Ha , who won $50,000, and Mary Gallegos, who won $5,000. Both
winners played
Scratcher games.

All net revenues from the sale of
New Mexico Lottery games benefit a tuition-assistance program for New Mexico residents attending the state’s public colleges and universities. Since 1996, the lottery has raised $435 million for education and more than 61,000 students have attended college on
Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
As of the Spring 2009 semester, 1,100 high school graduates and GED recipients from San Miguel County have received $4.6 million in
Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
