Roswell Man Wins $10,000 Powerball® Prize
1/23/2013 - ALBUQUERQUE
– Jaime Torres of Roswell won a $10,000 Powerball®
prize in the game’s Jan. 19 drawing.
“Now, I think anything is possible,” Torres told New Mexico Lottery officials when he claimed his prize in Albuquerque on Tuesday.
Torres’ quick-pick ticket matched the winning red Powerball
of 35 and the winning white ball numbers of 8, 28, 29 and 34. He missed matching the fifth winning white ball of 38 to land the night’s jackpot of $100 million.
The winner discovered his good fortune on Sunday when he asked a store clerk to check his ticket while he bought refreshments for a football game on television.
“The clerk told me that I was going to have to claim a prize at the lottery office,” Torres said. “I couldn’t believe it at first.”
Torres said he left the store in a daze and couldn’t remember buying his snacks or even putting them into his truck.
“It was amazing,” he said.
Before he pays a few bills, Torres said he plans to use his prize to buy a purse that his wife has been admiring online.
Torres bought his lucky ticket at Allsup’s Store No. 335 located at 2501 N. Main St. in Roswell. Previously, the store has sold 14 other large prize-winning lottery tickets paying between $1,000 and $100,000.
At the end of December, Roswell resident John Syska won a $10,000 Scratcher
