ALBUQUERQUE – Albuquerque resident Katherine Alderete flipped a Scratcher prize into a Roadrunner Cash ticket and won a $320,000 jackpot from the New Mexico Lottery.

“I went to the gas station to get another Scratcher and I saw the jackpot sign,” Alderete said.

Suddenly aware that the jackpot was on a big roll, Alderete bought a quick-pick Roadrunner Cash ticket with five wagers. About an hour after Monday night’s drawing, she discovered that one of her wagers matched the winning numbers of 5, 8, 16, 31 and 32 to beat odds of 1 in 435,897.

“I was laughing and crying,” she said.

Husband John said it sounded more like hysteria.

“Gibberish was coming out of her mouth,” he said.

Alderete, who bought her lucky ticket a High Desert Chevron located at 9633 Montgomery Blvd. NE in Albuquerque, said she plans to use her windfall to buy a new house.
