Eight Mega Millions® Tickets Miss Historic Jackpot by One Number

ALBUQUERQUE – It was a winning weekend for New Mexico Lottery players.

In Saturday’s Powerball drawing, one ticket matched the five white balls to win a $1 million prize. Until the game was reformatted in January, the prize for matching five white balls was $200,000.

In Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, more than 87,000 tickets won prizes of approximately $733,000. Eight of those tickets – one winning $250,000 and seven winning $10,000 — missed sharing in the historic $656 million jackpot by only one number.

“When a jackpot skyrockets, it’s easy to forget that there are eight other ways to win playing both Powerball and Mega Millions,” said Tom Romero, New Mexico Lottery chief executive officer. “We’re reminding all our players to check their tickets because many people won great prizes this weekend.”

Romero added that a $515,000 Roadrunner Cash jackpot from the game’s Feb. 28 drawing is still unclaimed. The ticket matches the winning numbers of 3, 7, 16, 17 and 23.

Prizes for all New Mexico Lottery drawing games must be claimed within 90 calendar days of the draw date.

The lottery advises all its players to sign their tickets immediately since they are bearer instruments. A signature and address line is printed on the back of every lottery ticket.

The New Mexico Lottery does not announce where winning tickets were sold until the players have an opportunity to come forward.
