ALBUQUERQUE – A La Plata man claimed a $100,000 Scratcher™ prize from the New Mexico Lottery Tuesday, more than a month after he revealed the six-figure win.

On the day after Christmas, Roosevelt Walker played the “10X Mega Money” Scratcher and found the game’s top prize underneath the seventh of 20 star-shaped symbols.

“I almost fainted,” Walker recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque. “My head got hot and I had to sit down.”

Walker, who kept the ticket in a safe deposit box until he could make the trip to Albuquerque to claim the prize in person, said he’s going to build a custom garage for his collection of classic cars.

Walker bought his lucky ticket at Giant Thriftway No. 211 located at 2700 W. Main St. in Farmington. Previously, the store has sold 16 large prize-winning tickets paying between $700 and $6,500.
