After the drawing, Marrufo gave her ticket to her son so that she could go to bed early. He checked the ticket’s numbers with drawing results announced at the lottery’s telephone hotline. When he stopped her at the door to her bedroom, Marrufo said she knew the ticket was a big winner.

“My son was nervous,” Marrufo recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque. “He said, ‘Mom, you got all the numbers. I know you’ve won something good.’”

Marrufo, who said she plans to buy a new car, bought her lucky ticket at Smith’s located at 2308 Cerrillos Road in Santa Fe. For selling the jackpot-winning ticket, Smith’s is eligible for a $1,000 lottery bonus.

Previously, the store has 11 large prize-winning lottery tickets paying between $1,000 and $50,000.
